Description:

Acid Sensing Ion Channel (ASIC) ß is a member of the amiloride-sensitive, degenerin/epithelial sodium channel superfamily. This family of proteins has two highly hydrophobic regions and is therefore believed to have two plasma membrane-spanning domains. ASIC ß is a splice variant of ASIC. The N-terminal 172 amino acids are different from ASIC. Unlike ASIC, ASIC ß is only found in dorsal root ganglion neurons and not permeable to calcium. It is absent from brain, suggesting it has a function unique to sensory neurons.
